Irene Levon Hodges Gillyard was born in Madison, Florida on October 13, 1940, to the late Ms. Arbe Hodges.
She was educated in the Public School System of Madison County. She later graduated from Madison County Training School and North Florida Junior College, where she exceled in culinary arts. She faithfully served as a Chef at Madison County Memorial Hospital for many years. During this time she impacted the lives of numerous individuals that she encountered on a daily basis.
In 1961, Irene was united in Holy Matrimony to James Gillyard. To this union, they were blessed with seven children. She was preceded in death by her son Marvin B. Gillyard and daughter Regina Branch.
On Friday, March 18, 2022, she heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” She gently closed her eyes and placed her hands in The Master’s hand and entered into eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her love and memories, 5 children: Rommie V. Hodges, Marilyn (Joe) Graham, James D. (Sheila) Gillyard Jr., Sherry A. Gillyard, Tricia M. Gillyard all of Madison, FL. 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 Special friends: Susan Wesley and Mary Gallon and a host of cousins and friends.
