Ms. Pauline Elaine Tooten
March 3, 1954 – March 13, 2026
Ms. Pauline Elaine Tooten, a lifelong resident of Live Oak, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, surrounded by family in Palm Bay, Florida.
Born to Mr. James Tooten Sr. and Mrs. Doris McKiver Tooten, Pauline was a graduate of Suwannee High School, Class of 1972, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of North Florida. A devoted educator, she served the Suwannee County District Schools for over 30 years, teaching Economics, Civics, World History, and ESE, and sponsoring Tri‑Hi‑Y and the Class of 1992.
Pauline was a lifelong member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in many roles, including Sunday School teacher, youth leader, choir member, kitchen committee member, and long‑time Financial Secretary. She was also active in numerous community organizations, served as a Girl Scouts troop leader, volunteered as a Pink Lady at Shands Hospital, and co‑hosted The Sunday Morning Gospel Time on the WNER radio station.
Affectionately known as Mean Pauline, Mama, and Queen Pauline, she was known for her generosity, love of children, faith, and joyful spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her youngest sibling, Timothy L. Tooten Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Maleka Tooten Campbell; son in love, Marquis D. Campbell; siblings Evelyn T. Williams (James O.) and James Tooten Jr. (Theresa); extended family, godchildren, many beloved friends, former students, and her grand dog, Mitzi Alea.
